So, it looks like it’s set to be a scorcher for the weekend of the year. Who said there wasn’t some Glastonbury lovin’ Lord sittin’ up there in the sky, sunkissing all us Worthy Farm heads? Not me, that’s for sure.

I’m very pleased about the (proposed) forecast, although I’m sure my ankles will have something to say about that. So now I’m having a relaxing evening speculating on the sun-creamy days ahead. I’m also making lots of piles (it’s what I do best). All the washing is done, the boy has got my backpack down for me (I tell a lie, he got it down last week, so I can look at it everyday and get suitably excited) and the dishwasher has been fixed (irrelevant, I know, but it’s been snagging my excitement – I hate it when things are on the waiting-to-be-fixed pile). The dishwasher man, believe it or not, is also going to Glastonbury. I’m not sure how he guessed we were going too (might’ve had something to do with the backpack and the piles). He asked, “So, are you travelling up from down here then?” It seems the excitement has got to him too and is warping his sense of geography. I didn’t like to correct him. A Glastonbury-goer wouldn’t do that to a fellow goer, especially since he’s a first-timer.

Tomorrow I’ve got to do the booze-trip. Perhaps the greatest supermarket trip of the year. Ooh, this’ll be nice for the first drink of the day! This’ll be perfect in the sun! Ooh, this’ll get me pissed quick… and so on. Sufficiently complicated stuff, don’t you think? I leave early Wednesday morning, so you never know, you might hear from me again tomorrow. ‘Til then! (Now, off to try on some more outfits against my imagined Glastonbury backdrop!)

Afternoon off work. Productivity levels = stagnant. Mostly worrying about things I still need to buy for that festival thingy at the end of June (I might’ve mentioned it before?). Things like a watch, some sort of cheap phone, loads’a'booze, disposable cameras, something to sleep on and so on.

There’s other important things to worry about too like how I’m going to get my tummy flat in less than two weeks (whilst continuing to eat crisps and drinking beer during football matches). Or shall I just accept that I am now PLUS ONE (ie. you need to set an extra place at the table for my belly, due to size and appetite)? I have also got to worry about how I’m going to sort out this awful bright-red-sore-eye situation that seems to have evolved (just in time for that festival) and pronto. And, perhaps most importantly, where I am going to hunt down a World Cup Wall Chart (essential piece of kit) on the day before the World Cup starts because it didn’t come in the Sunday paper as I was expecting.

I can’t live without a wall chart. And I can’t live with sore eyes. And I can’t live without mascara (as my eyes seem to wish I would). And I can’t live with this belly. And I can’t live without crisps/chocolate/cheese/beer/chocolate/chips. An almighty bunch of dichotomies = one big ball of worry. And this is without mention of the search for a job, the search for a doctor, the fact that my Glastonbury ticket has been delivered to the wrong address and….did I mention my tummy? I hope this has provided an insight into my ultra-dichotomised head (in other words – I’m a mentalist). If it wasn’t for the fact that I am listening to the Andrews Sisters, a cheeky little vinyl find in Oxfam in Liverpool, I don’t actually know what I would do.

Curious, isn’t it, how the sunshine can change your day? It’s the little things, like the fact that walking from shop to shop isn’t so daunting. I really hope the weather keeps itself up; cider in Somerset tastes much better when served with a dash of sunshine. Here’s hoping.

My thoughts at the moment are entirely preoccupied with Glastonbury. You know, which shorts to wear on which day and which drinks to drink in which order on which days. And that’s without the music. But now that it’s on my mind so constantly, I fear that the next 3 weeks will be the slowest yet. I’m just glad that the football will start soon and distract me, if only for a few minutes at a time. Speaking of which, how very exciting is the prospect of watching England on the Pyramid Stage….!

Here’s a picture I took in 2007. It pretty much sums up why I want to be there right now.

We stood then watching our friend Buddy, fated with life, nod and move on after Rosie, his pure heart beating to the tune of her sweet heels. The wings of mystic time beat down on us then, white with snowflakes, time that would whirl us all after our Rosies death and the frame-house funeral. Tragic and beautiful to see our Buddy move on out into the immemorial dance of fated snow-flakes, the dry rime rhyming on his collar. And the love that went out from us to him then was fantastic, true-volumned, sad-faced and innocent of the purposes of time, but true and in fact serious.
