she’s a university, a cosmic library

Good news, good news! I’ve got this external hard-drive thingymajig and one day I decided it would be a good (aka BAD) idea to start carrying it around in my bag – I had my laptop stolen and while that left me emotionally unhinged, I knew that the loss of the hard-drive would be more than I could bear – so that it would never leave my side. As a result of this (and occasionally having to run for the bus) the little bit where you plug it in broke so it’s been inaccessible for a couple of years now. I’ve never bothered to get it fixed (who bothers to get these things fixed?). The entire story of my university life is on that thing (from essays and photos and photography and an obscene-gigabyte music collection and one big fat dissertation) so getting it sorted has been on many a to-do list ever since. But yeah, unsorted it has remained.

And now – a break through! My very clever boy (did I mention he just built his own computer?) overheard me lamenting about the state of said hard-drive the other day and has since broken open the casing (this required TOOLS plural) and managed to extract the hard-drive and got hold of some special cable (that happens to look like an aeroplane seatbelt, I’ll have you know) and put it inside his computer (who knows) and ta-bloody-da! A massive piece of my puzzle was back before my eyes. I am very happy and have since been delving through some wonderful memories. And, most importantly, am at long, long last updating the music on my phone (I always stubbornly refrained from doing so because of the stacks of music I knew were lurking on my hard-drive, waiting to be loved).

So, why should you care about my resurrected hard-drive? Because, my friends, there are boundless folders of pictures and photography, which took years of collating, that will look just perfect on here. Some really beautiful images and I’m excited to share some with you. It’s quite amusing making my way through the folders and watching the tangents unfold. There’s lots of treats in store, promise!

For now, though, let’s keep it simple. Avedon and Hepburn.
