Jambalaya is one of my favourite songs. Top 20 sort of material. But I spend hours trying to decide which version is my favourite. I usually swing between Hank Williams and Brenda Lee. One of our friends does a rather good rendition too, which sounds particularly good in a rainy Somerset field. But at the moment, this is the one that’s on repeat.

This song holds a very special significance for us. It never fails to make me feel sad. But glad, too. For so many reasons. I’ve mentioned it before, here and here. So, I was particularly happy when Cast decided to cover it recently. It’s so refreshing to hear it sung in an accent much closer to home (geographically and emotionally). It’s shot straight into my top five covers. And that’s saying something. Enjoy!

We’re going to Berlin in the morning, but I shan’t baffle on about that ~~until I came back~~. You’ll be bombarded with photos upon our return. But more important than our jollies is the gig we’ll be going to next weekend. Olde Time Religion, hosted by The Springtime Anchorage, who I’ve mentioned before here, are hosting it on 10th March at the Zanzibar, Liverpool. I don’t need to tell you how boss a night it’ll be, but I will: IT’LL BE BOSS. So if any of you are north-west heads, I suggest you get down there, not least to see our new friends, The Wellgreen (who can also be found here and here, JUST SAYIN’). I worked from home today. I could certainly get used to that. You know, wake up whenever, get up/dressed, get the coffee machine on, blitz through what needs doing, then the rest of the day is mine/the world is an oyster/anything goes. Once I’d finished my work today, I went to town, had a bit of a saunter, bought some food for dinner, sauntered on home, tidied, ironed, cooked. And now I’m here, with or without a glass of wine (you decide), a sleepy boy in my midst (he gets up early for that thing they call work), with my headphones blasting me out a bit of the nineties. Lovely. Shame I’ve got to actually go to work tomorrow. Whoever thought of that.

I’m not a very video person. But since this is just so perfect, I couldn’t not. Honestly, this is the stuff of top tens. Everything about this song is what I love. It would be perfect in a field with a pint of cider. It would be perfect if my boy was singing it. It would be perfect in a club, dancing my socks off. So, enjoy.
