Well, I am rather pleased to annouce to you, dear readers, that this is my 100th post. This one, right here. Who’d've thought it, eh? I’m sure it’s the pictures that keep calling so many of you back and not the words I (hardly) speak. But I do find it rather strange and curious to know that so many of you are popping over here every day. I hope to start doing you justice now that I’ve reached my century. Call me a centurion, if you will.

I wish I had something to report on this celebratory day, but I don’t. I’m busy at work this week, but I’ve got the whole of next week off. Yes! It’s the boy’s birthday so no doubt it’ll just contain lots of food and music. I can’t wait. I will take lots of pictures and show you what we’re filling our bellies with. I did promise outfit posts too, didn’t I? Well, you’ll get those next week too. That’s a logsy-promise.

So, my internet has been down for a few days, which is completely not on. I haven’t experienced this since the days of living in uni houses, when the box was in my mate’s room, who happened to be away for the weekend and had locked the door (you’d be surprised how often this occurred). But yeah, it just happened again, as if! We reported the problem and then just had to sit and twiddle our thumbs until the man from the technical team rang to say he had fixed it (the geek). Meanwhile I’ve been trying to do my admin on an iPhone. Errrr, not happening! But you’ll be glad to see I’m back, I’m sure. And you’ll be glad to know that mostly, I have been feeling and looking like this (although I don’t pull off the raincoat anywhere near as well as our Regine here):

Oh, how can I make up for the fact that I’ve been absent so long? I haven’t a clue what the answer to that is, but I do hope you’ll forgive me anyway. I haven’t got any fabulous excuse (you know, like moving to New York and being inundated with an exciting flood of work projects, à la Garance (author of the staple in my blog-diet, don’t you know)) except for the small Southern excursion which consisted entirely of cocktails, food, wine and a few sore heads. Oh and the obligatory trip to the haven that is Beyond Retro. Always fruitful.

I haven’t even got any fun things to report since my return (for how much fun can one have when ones hand is permanently attached to the end of an umbrella?). I’m so not up for this winter lark, especially this Northern winter lark. It cuts deeper than this Southern girl can take. I need a new pair of boots and fast.

I’ll be back tomorrow with something worthwhile – promise. Now I’ve got to trudge through the rain to get something or other to put in the fridge, ugh. Meanwhile, below = the most addictive birthday present ever. Thank you, the boy.

I haven’t mentioned the weather for quite some time, have I? This being the case, I hope you will forgive me if I have a little rant. So, here we go. I’m sick of being cold! There’s a devilish chill in the air and it means business. In reality, there has only been a handful of weeks when you could leave the house without a coat or jacket or jumper or significant other. But even then it was hazardous territory – there were inexplicable and frequent drops in temperature, stormy winds or cold showers. But that scattering of days have passed and now you’d be nothing but a fool if you choose to leave the house without some sort of outer layer. If you don’t, your foolishness will land you with a perpetual set of goosebumps. I don’t like the cold and I certainly don’t like the goosebumps that are indicative of said cold. The only time I’m happy is when I’m wrapped up warm in my bed and the cold can’t get to me (until I stick one foot outside of the duvet…uh oh).

Anyway. On the plus side, I’m going home-home on Friday. You know, the home-home where my parents live. London calls for my birthday celebrations. It’s going to be WELL WARM. Isn’t it? (I’m gonna take a woolly, just in case.) Oh, and since it’s my birthday, I’m allowed to listen to as much Dolly as I bloody well want.

So, that gig I was telling you about, it was last night. I loved it. Kitty, Daisy and Lewis at the Night and Day Cafe in Manchester. The closest I’ve ever got to them is youtube, so it was amazing to see them in such a cosy little place (albeit a sweaty one). Unfortunately, it was obvious that they weren’t happy with the sound – they asked for something to be turned up after every song (sometimes they asked for two things to be turned up, or even three). The sound man obviously wasn’t on it. There was a guest appearance from a Jamaican trumpeter (who was sporting a rather dashing jester-esque shirt and an Obama baseball cap); after he’d finished dazzling through the microphone and Daisy started singing again, it took the sound man about twenty seconds to realise he had to turn the mic back up; this happened several times, so you could tell K, D & L weren’t all that happy.

Anyway, none of this detracts from the fact that they are all supremely talented and they have more passion and enthusiasm than anyone I’ve seen for a long time. They swap instruments constantly; they all sing and drum and strum and have more than a tinkle on the piano. Kitty plays a mean harmonica too. And Daisy brings out the accordian – just because she feels like it. Dad sits in the corner on rhythm guitar (he is TOO COOL and his red socks were an ingenious touch) and Mum holds it all together on the double bass. In all, they ooze charisma and charm and talent. Go see them, if you get the chance.

I didn’t take a camera, but I did take a few snaps on my phone, so you get the idea…

August? How did that happen? Oh well, I’ll stop lamenting about how quickly time is passing (and how cold and rainy it is for August), but only because it’s my birthday in less than two weeks. I love a bit of birthday. I will be in London for it (where else?) and just can’t wait to see the best of friends and family and cocktails and some better weather.

On Wednesday I’m going to a gig. Not just any gig. An I’m-so-excited-I-feel-like-I’m-14-again sort of gig. It’s top secret though, until I’ve been to it and it’s wondrousness proves me right. Also have a bbq-thing to go to at the weekend (yeah, I know, in the North West rain) which is always a little bit lovely and boozy.

ALSO. The boy has convinced me that I should start sharing some of my outfits with you. So, I’m gonna. Not yet though. Not until I’ve worked out how I can artistically block out my face – oops, I’m casually blocking my eyes from the sun that isn’t there/oops I’m wearing massive sunglasses in the rain! But yeah, I will show you what I’m wearing sometime soon. Maybe my birthday will mark the new outfit phase of the blog. That’s something to look forward to, isn’t it? But in the meantime, here’s another look that’s much better than anything I could ever create…
